Psilocybin Therapy in Denver, Colorado
Denver is one of the few places in the country where an adult can legally sit down with a licensed facilitator and take psilocybin as part of a safe therapeutic process, not a gray market experience or an underground ceremony. Nikki Fall, LCSW is a licensed psychotherapist, psychoanalyst, and Colorado Natural Medicine Clinical Facilitator who offers exactly that: legal, clinically grounded psilocybin therapy for individuals and couples, with sessions at a licensed Denver facility and preparation and integration available in person or virtually.
What Colorado's Natural Medicine Law Actually Changed
In 2022, Colorado voters passed the Natural Medicine Health Act, and the state has since built out a licensing system for facilitators and healing centers. For Denver residents, this means the choice is no longer between doing nothing and taking a risk. A person can now work with someone who has gone through actual clinical and medicine training, who is accountable to a licensing board, and who treats the medicine within a therapeutic healing process for immediate and long-term results.
That distinction matters more than it might seem. A facilitator who only knows how to administer the medicine can get someone through a session. A facilitator who is also a trained psychotherapist can help someone prepare for the session in ways that makes the session feel safer and calmer. Clients learn that it is possible to go through a journey empowered with tools and with clear direction and goals. And finally, clients learn about their minds to understand how the medicine guided them in their healing process and they learn how to continue on the path that the medicine opened up for them. This crucial part of the work which therapists call ‘integration’ is rooted in neuroscience and evidence-based practice. Without it, clients lose the insights from their journeys.
Nikki trained as a psychoanalyst and trauma therapist before she trained as a clinical psychedelic facilitator, and all of her real-life experience with medicine and with how people perceive, feel and heal is shaping her work with psilocybin. Research out of Imperial College London describes something called the REBUS model, or Relaxed Beliefs Under Psychedelics. Under psilocybin, activity at the 5-HT2A receptor appears to loosen rigid, long held beliefs about identity, worth, and safety, the very beliefs that keep depression, anxiety, and trauma locked in place.
Psilocybin also reduces activity in the default mode network, the part of the brain tied to self-referential thinking and rumination. For someone who has spent years circling the same negative narrative about themselves, that temporary quieting can open a new window to themselves that talk therapy alone sometimes cannot reach - or very slowly, over years or decades. With the support of psilocybin, Nikki helps guide people to calmer spaces within themselves, and to spaces that need healing. This type of deep healing is not possible without preparation, support, care and integration.
Why the Medicine Works: A Psychoanalyst's View
Legal psilocybin journeys take place at a licensed Denver healing center facility, following roughly three weeks of preparation and followed by integration sessions available in person or virtually. This work tends to suit people dealing with treatment resistant depression, chronic anxiety, low self-esteem, childhood trauma, grief, or a persistent sense that something essential is missing, even when life looks fine from the outside. New clients start with a free consultation before anything is scheduled.
Individual Psilocybin Therapy
A meaningful share of Nikki's caseload is couples, and psilocybin assisted couples work is some of the most effective therapy she does. Partner selection is never random. The unresolved material from a person's earliest relationships tends to reappear in their partnership, shaping arguments, distance, and the stories each partner tells about the other. A shared psilocybin journey, held inside a real therapeutic frame, can surface that pattern clearly enough for both people to finally see it and start working with it directly rather than around it.
The Couples Package
Three weeks of preparation, a guided psilocybin journey of six to seven hours at a licensed Denver facility, and three weeks of integration afterward, roughly sixteen hours of work in total. Couples talk therapy without a psychedelic component is also available for couples who are not ready for this step.
Psilocybin Therapy for Couples
Psilocybin is not the right starting point for everyone, and Nikki also works with clients through EMDR, an evidence based method for reprocessing trauma that has become lodged in the nervous system, and through ongoing psychoanalytic and relational psychotherapy for clients who want depth oriented work without medicine involved at all.
EMDR and Ongoing Depth Therapy
The process opens with a free consultation, an honest conversation about a client’s fears and whether psilocybin therapy fits where someone is right now. Everyone experiences fears entering this process. It is important to be with the fears to understand that they are coming from a fear to face ourselves, rather than needing to fear the medicine itself. Psilocybin is the one of the safest medicines on the planet and does not wish harm for anyone. Its intent is always to support healing. A thorough intake and medical assessment is conducted at the beginning to eliminate physical and mental harm. From there, preparation runs about three weeks, building the relationship and clarifying what the person hopes to work through. The journey itself takes place at a licensed facility in Denver and lasts six to seven hours. Integration sessions follow over the next several weeks, translating whatever surfaced into something usable in daily life. Nothing about the timeline is rigid. It moves at the pace of the person doing the work.
A Session, Start to Finish
Nikki trained as a clinical psychologist at Johannes Gutenberg University in Germany, earned her MSW at NYU, and completed psychoanalytic training at the National Institute for the Psychotherapies. She is EMDRIA licensed and trained in both ketamine assisted psychotherapy and psilocybin facilitation through Fluence in New York, and she holds a Colorado Natural Medicine Clinical Facilitator license. She co-founded OUR HOUSE, a psychedelic healing community running group therapy programs and retreats across New York, Connecticut, and Colorado, and she is licensed to practice in all three states.
"We are not our thoughts. And we are not our pain. Psychedelics guide us back to who we really are, to connection, to more peace and to more compassion for self and others." Nikki Fall, LCSW
